Over the years we have taken in many unwanted, sick, injured or birds with behavioural problems.

Our doors are always open to any bird in need. In this downturn in the economic climate many people are considering rehoming their birds as they cant afford to feed them. Its a sad situation, but if you do find yourself amongst them, do let us know. The birds are housed either here in Westmeath, or in Mayo with another experienced parrot owner, you can check out their website here www.green-parrots.com

Most of the birds we take in find a forever home with us, but some may be rehomed if an excellent home can be found for them, and their previous owners are in agreement. Please note that we do not pay for any bird we take into our care, nor do we charge for any we place with new famiilies. If you wish to adopt a bird please contact us, and a questionnaire will be sent to you.

Here are some of the birds we have rescued in the past.

Sammy

Sammy was a budgie with the worst case of Scaly Mite I have ever seen. I actually asked the vet to humanely euthanise him, as I felt he was so ill, there was no hope! We decided to give him a week and see if he improved any, thankfully we did! Sammy has found his forever home with us now, and has a girl friend whom he loves, she isnt so fond of him though!!

Éalú

Éalú came to us from a desperate situation. She had been house outdoors with no protection from the weather. She suffered severe frostbite in both her feet and was unable to stand. She was also 40% underweight. She has made a complete recovery and still lives with us today. Éalú is the Irish word for escape, as we feel she had a lucky escape to come to us.

Charlie

Charlie was given to us by his owners as they could no longer handle him. He was only 18 months old, and was behaving like an aviary bird. He was nervous, screaming, and throwing himself on the floor. He had also chewed off the flight feathers on both his wings. Charlie stayed with us for a while until he had overcome much of his fear. He was rehomed with a lady who has a cockatoo, and was used to large birds. He is doing very well now.

Paco and Puka

These are 2 very much loved budgies, who had a wonderful life! Unfortunately due to the downturn in the economic climate their owners were forced to relocate to Europe and could find no legal way of bringing their darlings with them. They will live out their days here with us.
